Bluehost Review 2021 – Is It Still Worth Using?

Bluehost Review 2021Choosing a web host is an essential but overwhelming task.

It can be very difficult to decide which web hosting provider to use out of the 100s (or 1000s) of options out there.

Today, I am going to be looking at Bluehost, a very well-known hosting provider. I have used them and covered them before, but this is an updated bluehost review for 2021.

I am going to be looking at a number of different factors in this review to speak about how Bluehost has performed against important factors for web hosting.

Before we begin, just a bit of information about Bluehost.

Bluehost has been in business since 1996, and they have become a very popular web hosting company for business startups and more.

According to their website, they power more than 2 million websites all over the world.

They are a very well established web hosting company and they’re also very good with WordPress websites as well. In fact, they have been a recommend WordPress hosting provider for over a decade.

I will start by going through going through some key factors that you should go through with any web hosting service, and then I will explain one by one how Bluehost performs in each of these categories.

1. Features

review of bluehost 2021This is something that is important for all web hosts.

They need to have a number of services that will allow you to upgrade depending on your business and the kinds of things that you’re doing.

One of the most basic factors: Bluehost is very compatible with WordPress powered websites and it’s optimized to run and protect WordPress websites. That is very important.

Bluehost has lots of other features like shared hosting, which is a great way to get started if you have low traffic volumes.

Bluehost can handle that as well as Cloud hosting, WooCommerce (if you want an online store), VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting and dedicated server hosting.

As well as the basics, Bluehost does have lots of those advanced features as well.

If you’re just getting started, you’re probably going to want to be using shared hosting. However, it’s still nice to know that there are other upgrades available in the future, allowing your website to handle higher levels of traffic.

Bluehost offers great options for getting started, and also has lots of upgrade options for the future.

2. Pricing

I am glad to say that Bluehost offers a number of different packages that can suit you depending on what stage you’re at.

You have four different packages which are Basic, Plus, Choice Plus, and Pro.

The Basic plan is great for getting started (discount link here). It allows you to host one website with 50 GBs of SSD storage and 5 email accounts, which is all you really need if you’re just getting going. The Basic plan is also very affordable, starting at $2.06 per month.

If you want to upgrade in the future to the other packages. These offer things like unlimited websites (instead of just one), unlimited SSD storage, and you’re also getting unlimited domains included rather than just one.

There’s plenty of room for upgrading in the future. Bluehost does very will in this category.

3. Page Speed

It’s very important to have a web host with fast loading pages and good web speed. It is something that factors into your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) by having great page speed. Google prefers to rank sites that are optimized and load quickly.

I’ve looked at number of different studies that have been done on Bluehosts web loading times, and it has excelled in all the different tests that I have looked at. Some tests have ranked it as A+ for loading speed. As I mentioned before, it’s optimized forWordPress which definitely helps.

It’s had a very good response time for the page speed tests. I think Bluehost does really well here.

4. Performance

Bluehost web host reviewThis is basically how a web host performs under heavy traffic spikes.

Just like the previous category, I’ve had a look at different tests that have been done on Bluehost’s server response time.

It’s actually received very good results. In fact, the performance results I’ve seen have received an A+ which is a great thing to see. In particular, Bluehost servers in the USA have performed very well.

In other locations around the world, server response time was slightly slower, but still very fast. I think that Bluehost gets a great result in this category as well.

5. Support & Customer Service

This is very important with a web hosting provider.

If you have any issues (such as website downtime or other kinds of issues), you need to be able to get support and that you don’t need to jump through too many hoops in order to do this.

Like a lot of web hosts, Bluehost has lots of support articles and things like that, but it also has a 24/7 support system where you can chat to people on live chat or on the phone.

One downside I would say (but this is the case with all hosting services) is that sometimes you will need to jump through hoops if you want to cancel a web hosting package. That’s a bit of a shame, but this is something that affects all web hosts. When people are cancelling web hosting packages, the hosts ask you to call in and cancel.

Other than this, Bluehost performs well with it’s support with the 24/7 support system and lots of FAQ articles.

Again, I give Bluehost high marks for customer support.

I’ve gone through those different categories and now I want to list off some Pros and Cons talking about Bluehost.

PROS:

  • Pricing – Definitely affordable for people just starting out, it’s very affordable with a basic package.  This link also gives a discount.
  • No hidden charges – Unlike a lot of web hosting providers, there seems to be fewer hidden charges which can (of course) be very off-putting for people in terms of being sucked into paying for things that are not needed. Bluehost has a lot less of that and is very transparent.
  • Free domain – This is also great for getting started as you get a free domain name for one year when you join. It allows people to get started faster.
  • Minimum downtime – Bluehost has great reliability in terms of the tests that have been performed on it, so your websites will suffer minimum downtime. This is something you definitely want from a web host.

CONS:

  • Higher domain renewal price – After the first year, you’ll notice that the domain renewal price seems to be a little bit on the higher side, which is a shame. This is something to be aware of. It’s not a huge issue though.
  • Upsells – I did mention that there are not many hidden costs, but I have noticed that they have some aggressive upsells when you’re signing up. However, this is something you’ll see with many popular web hosts. The solution to this is to simply select what you want and ignore the rest.

Looking at all the factors, you might still be asking if Bluehost is worth using for your web hosting in 2021?

I would say that it is, given that it’s received fantastic results in different tests like page speed and reliability.

It’s also great for getting started. There are lots of affordable hosting plans and great customer support.

Like I said before, I think it’s a great option, not just for starting out, but it gives you great flexibility in the future with upgrading.

Bluehost definitely has my recommendation. I have used it for many websites in the past, and it’s been very good for me. I do recommend Bluehost in 2021 based on all the different factors covered in this review. If you are interested in Bluehost, this link will give you a good discount as well.
