Exactly what is Mary Kay Cosmetics?

In the world of multi-level marketing, one of the most profitable and successful niches is that of personal care/cosmetics. Tons of different companies have entered this field in the hopes of making a fortune, and while some have, many haven’t as well.

Out of all these companies, one of the biggest names in the personal care niche is that of Mary Kay. In fact, the Mary Kay brand name is pretty much synonymous with the entire MLM world itself. The company is easily one of the most recognizable MLM entities that exists today, and while most of you have probably heard of it at one point or another, do you really know just what the company has to offer?

Mary Kay is a form of direct selling business that was first started all the way back in 1963 by none other than Mary Kay Ash herself. The company is based directly out of Texas in the United States, and although it initially started as one small storefront in the South, it has quickly grown into an international distribution company that offers a wide array of skin care, fragrance, makeup products, and so much more.

A few years ago in 2011, the Mary Kay company reported a total revenue of $2.9 billion, along with an employee count of more than 5,000.

Mary Kay is one of the oldest opportunities that exists in this area of MLM, and while it does have that and great brand-awareness going for it, is that enough to constitute for an MLM opportunity that’s worth hitching up with?

Are There Any Mary Kay Cosmetics Products?

As I already mentioned, Mary Kay is an opportunity that operates in the niche of personal care and cosmetic products. The company has expanded its product line offering quite a lot since it first launched all those years ago, with some of the most notable additions including the likes of sun protection, skin care products for men, face masks, and a ton more.

At the time of this writing, Mary Kay currently offers products that are contained in six main categories, including Skin Care, Makeup, Body and Sun, Fragrance, Men’s, and Gifts.

While there are certainly some products that are a bit more expensive than competing brands, Mary Kay as a whole aims at offering quality products that are affordable for most people.

For example, some products and their respective price tags include –

  • Hand Cream – $10
  • Ultimate Mascara – $15
  • Guy’s Facial Wash – $16
  • Age-Fighting Moisturizer – $24 for a 3oz bottle
  • Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sun Block – $10

The products listed here are just a few examples of what Mary Kay has to offer, and if you want to view the entire product line, you can easily do so by visiting the official Mary Kay website. Additionally, more products can also be viewed through the company’s e-catalogue, IBC site, or at a physical Mary Kay house party that consultants regularly hold to market and sell products that they’re trying to sell.

Can You Tell Me About The Compensation Plan For Mary Kay Cosmetics?

It’s easy to see that the Mary Kay product line is of a very high quality, but what about the compensation plan?

Upon deciding to become a consultant for Mary Kay, you’ll be required to purchase the company’s starter kit that costs $100 upfront. This isn’t a terrible price to pay for a starter kit for a company in this niche, but it is worth noting that you’ll likely need to purchase a few more items in order to build up your available stock for when you’re trying to sell these items.

Mary Kay will title you as an Independent Beauty Consultant once you decide to get affiliated with them, and the company regularly runs deals and promotions for joining.

These deals regularly change, but at the time of this writing, choosing to become an Independent Beauty Consultant for Mary Kay will allow you to get a free custom color look, business announcement eCard, a 50-percent discount on the Mary Kay website, and a 40-percent savings for the company’s business kit with included business cards.

Free training is made available to all Independent Beauty Consultants to help everyone be as successful as possible with their selling techniques, and once you are able to obtain the rank of Senior Professional within the company, you’ll be required to start paying team fees for your downline.

Senior Professional members for Mary Kay are able to earn a commission of 4-percent for all sales that take place within their downline, and as you increase your rank within the company, you can grow this number to as much as 13-percent.

In addition to offering direct sales commissions and the ability to earn off of your personally recruited downline, Mary Kay also offers a heap of bonus and rewards that you can work towards. Top sellers within the company have the chance to win a 2-year lease of a pink Cadillac, white Chevy Cruz, monthly cash bonus of $375/month, and more.

While these bonuses are nice, be warned that you’ll need to do a lot of selling in order to obtain them. For example, getting a free 2-year lease of a pink Cadillac will require you to generate more than $100,000 in sales over the course of one year.

What Is The Fee To Join Mary Kay Cosmetics?

As I mentioned above, you’ll need to purchase a starter kit for Mary Kay upon decided to become a consultant for the company. This starter kit costs $100, and comes with retail-sized items, sales brochures, training DVDs, and product samplers.
