I went away and did some research.

What Is Nerium International?

In 2011, Nerium International launched as part of the anti-aging niche of the MLM world. Based out of Texas, United States, Nerium International is run by Founder and CEO, Jeff Olson.

nerium international scamJeff Olson appears to have begun his MLM career in the late 1980s, beginning with the National Safety Associates (NSA), and then moving on to Quorom.

Unfortunately, both of these companies appear to require affiliates to purchase stock that they can’t sell, or don’t need, referred to as “front loading.”

From the National Safety Associates Wikipedia page:

“NSA had some legal troubles in 1993, as the Attorney General’s office followed up on complaints that the company was deceptively requiring new distributors to make large upfront purchases of air and water filters.

Each of the 32,000 distributors in Florida purchased an average of $7,000 worth of water filters, and many of these distributors were unable to sell all of them.”

From the Quorom Wikipedia page:

“The little hand held alarms at $25 sold like hot cakes (to quote Raymond Hung) but they were easy to copy and sell in discount stores.

Meantime most distributors were looking at that pile of $450 house alarms gathering dust in the garage! They were looking at top dogs making $1-$2 million and saying “I think I have been had!”

Consumer electronic companies never spun off the main item, the house alarm! Period zip zero, just the hand held and “bike” alarms. So quit the B.s.

Now, another unique front end load with a $450 dust collector?

The WatchDog helped people file complaints to get some of the piles of dust collectors out of people’s garages.”

Although no longer marketing water filters, NSA is still operating today. IN 1996, Quorom filed for bankruptcy.

In an article on Olson, Marketing Merge is quoted as saying Olson has one of the largest organizations in the history of NSA” and within Quorom, “a gigantic organization.”  Olson is credited as being “the number one money maker in (Quorom). He was so successful, he was eventually made the Chief Executive Officer of the company.”

Olson launched The People’s Network after Quorom filed for bankruptcy, which later merged with PrePaid Legal. Olson remained as a trainer and consultant for the company, leaving around the same time PrePaid Legal was purchased by MidOcean Partners (who then renamed the company Legal Shield)

In 2011, Olson formed a partnership with Nerium Biotechnology, which then went on to become Nerium International.

It appears as though the company has managed to stay out of legal trouble since it formed, with the exception of the lawsuit filed by actor Ray Liotta against them in March of this year.

“Around Oct. 13, 2013, Liotta claims in his complaint that as part of a marketing campaign, Nerium, “by and through its agents, distributed photographs and related materials that identify, name, and/or describe, and purport to show [Liotta] ‘before-and-after’ using Nerium AD skin cream.”

In the before photo, Liotta’s skin is blotchy while in the “after” photos his skin appears to be smoother.

Several exhibits in the court filing are photos of the same “before-and-after” photo shared by individuals on social media site Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest.”

Nerium is currently using a ignorance defense, claiming that this may be an affiliate that is using unauthorized advertising materials.

“In a statement provided to, a spokeswoman for the company said, “Nerium was surprised to learn through the media about a lawsuit filed by Mr. Ray Liotta. We take claims against our company seriously and we are committed to investigating this matter promptly.”

Liotta further goes on to claim that Nerium is “a product-based pyramid scheme.”

Nerium sells its products to “Nerium Partners,” sales agents who recruit new partners “in an ever-growing pyramid.”

As far as I can tell, this lawsuit still remains unsettled.

What Are The Nerium International Products?

The Nerium International product line is based heavily off of the Nerium Biotechnology product line. In a press release from 2011, Nerium International states:

“Founded in 2006, Nerium Biotechnology, Inc. was created to fund research focused on new technology and applications of the Nerium oleander plant.

While researching the uses of the Nerium oleander plant, Nerium Biotechnology, Inc. made an accidental discovery: Nerium oleander possesses unique qualities that produce remarkable age-defying results when applied to the skin.

This discovery, with product development through Nerium SkinCare, Inc., led to the creation of the NeriumAD™ skincare line.

In 2009, Nerium SkinCare, Inc. was developed as a division of Nerium Biotechnology, Inc. to provide for research, new product development, formulation, testing, and manufacturing of all skincare applications, including the patent-pending Nerium oleander extract, NAE-8.

In 2011, Nerium International partnered with Nerium SkinCare, Inc. to build a global, first-of-its-kind skincare line based on a strong, scientific foundation.”

nerium international productsNerium International’s main product draw is NeriumAD, which retails for $110 for a 30mL tube.

So, Is Nerium International A Scam or completely Legit?

You may have heard huge income claims and wondered if something like Nerium International is a scam or a pyramid scheme.

In truth, the network marketing industry faces a lot of criticism from lots of sides.

A lot of the times, people call business opportunities a scam when they don’t even know the definition of the word.

In short, I don’t recommend you listen (or give credit to) any Nerium International Scam rumours that you hear.

Yes, there are people who think Nerium is a scam, but these people simply don’t agree with the business model. They are sceptics. That is all.

I don’t recommend joining Nerium but that doesn’t mean it’s a scam

Also, at least there are some proper “physical” products unlike a business like iGrow where it’s not really a proper product.

My Nerium Review And Conclusion

I can’t say whether or not these products work – however, one of your best sales tools will be to show them real results with before and after shots. It’s a pretty bad idea to attempt to fake these before and after shots.

There are a few concerns with the compensation plan, namely that it doesn’t strongly encourage retail sales. Nerium also has their personal volume commission qualifier set very low. Also, the start up packs raise a few questions for me. These Start Up packs are directly tied to qualifications.

It would be beneficial for Nerium to have a compensation plan that focused more on retail.

You may see a lot of people succeed with Nerium and wonder whether it’s possible.

Well, it is possible but you will always have 98% who struggle and/or never make any money.

If you want to succeed with the opportunity, my best recommendation is to learn how to market using the Internet.

Don’t irritate your friends and family to get them into the business because this is not an effective marketing strategy.
