What Is The Best WordPress Theme For A Blog?

what is the best wordpress theme for a blogYou should know by now that WordPress should be your choice if you are creating a new website or starting a Blog.

And I show you how to do this in my Free 6 Figure Roadmap training course:

Unless…..you need a super secure “fort knox” website like the government departments have, or you need a huge “all singing and dancing ecommerce” website, a self-hosted WordPress website (like this one) is more than likely to be the best choice for you.

The search engines love WordPress which gives you a greater chance of ranking and getting more web traffic. It’s easy to use and is a popular all round and well respected platform.

So, this opens up another question: What is the best WordPress Theme For A Blog?

Ok, the short answer is that there is no “best theme”. It depends on the “mood” you want to go for.

However, there is a “best platform of themes“, and that is Genesis which is commonly known as being the Best WordPress Framework out there.

It is the framework and theme that my website runs on, and it’s benefits (shown below) and fantastic reputation was the reason for me to use it.

So, What Is The Best WordPress Theme For A Blog? – Meet Genesis!

Genesis (by Studiopress) is essentially a “WordPress Framework” that powers it’s respective themes. I would explain how this all works but it’s probably easiest to see a full description on their home page here. If you want to know what is the best wordpress theme for a Blog, it’s Genesis. Read below for reasons why.

There are a variety of themes available, ranging from corporate, magazine style, enterprise and personal blogs.

Here are just two of the many themes available within Genesis:

In case you are wondering, this website (Web Traffic Lounge) runs on Prose Theme. Prose is considered to be a nice “blank canvas” of a theme in which you can take it and run with it in any direction. That is what I wanted. Prose theme is great!

5 Reasons To Choose Genesis As The Theme For Your Blog?

Here are the “Cliff Notes” summary of why you should choose Genesis:

1. Search Engine Optimisation – There’s a number of factors that makes Genesis super SEO Friendly and it has been given high praise on this topic.

It has clean code, Smart Design Architecture, Mobile Responsive themes (which Google and users Love), Schema integration and Optimized Page Speed. All of these things give you a serious advantage! It also has been built to integrate with the number 1 (essential) SEO Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast. See my explanation of that plugin in this post here.

2. HTML5 Designs – Ok, this may sound geeky but HTML5 represents the future of the web and is important! Let’s leave it there!

3. Unlimited Everything – You pay the “one off” cost and then get unlimited support as well as the “non techie” easy ability to customize every aspect of your website.

4. Fantastic Security – The Genesis framework has been built to be as secure as possible which is important! There are a lot of hackers out there and (if you are using WordPress), you need to make sure you are using a theme/framework that adheres to security best practices.

5. Regular Updates That Don’t Break the Site – In the past, I would run updates and seriously be worried about my website going down. With Genesis, everything is tested so that the updates just work!

I recommend using Genesis as the Framework and selecting a specific theme from what they have on offer.

Hopefully, this post helps if you are trying to decide on a new blog or website and need to know what is the best wordpress theme for a Blog.

Do you use Genesis? Or, a you considering it alongside other options?

If so, let me know in the comments below.

  1. Hey Nick, I use genesis too with the Child theme Metro. Easy and very well optimize for SEO.

    • Hey Renaud.

Good to hear that you are using Genesis. It’s an amazing platform!
I used some other WordPress platforms for websites before and Genesis is far superior.
Thanks for stopping by Renaud. 🙂

  2. Thanks Nick for this insights. I am now in the shopping mode for theme and I noticed Genesis crop up several times in my search.

By the way, is Joomla SEO friendly? I am building one site using Joomla and I like the different user level login features.

    Care to advice?

    • Hi Pirduan.

Joomla has never been considered SEO Friendly. It may be a good platform for certain types of website but it just isn’t SEO friendly out of the box. I used to work on a clients site that was in Joomla, and it required an enormous amount of custom coding, which had moderate results. By the way, it’s probably important for me to give an external opinion on this. Please see this post: http://www.sitepoint.com/wordpress-v-joomla-search-engine-optimization/

WordPress is obviously a very popular platform, and I must say that it wins in 90% of scenarios. It may not be appropriate for a government website or a (vast) eCommerce, but let’s be honest, most of us aren’t building those websites. If you are a Blogger, then the choice must be WordPress.

Regarding Genesis: This is the Rolls Royce of WordPress in my opinion. It’s used by lots of the famous Bloggers and (speaking from experience), it does everything well.

      Hope that helps.

  3. Hello,

Yes genesis is really a wonderful framework, it has awesome features and the best part is it’s really fast and easy to customize. Every theme is unique and elegant in look.

    Thanks for the share.

  4. Hi Anirudh.

Yes, completely agreed. The Genesis team have certainly done their homework in developing fast and responsive themes. I think that if people are using WordPress, they should pay attention to having a clean coded theme.

Page Speed is an important factor for SEO, and the Genesis themes have been optimised to “run fast”.
